When I did the background painting for Drowning, I had no idea where to go with an image. And, you might say, as a regular reader of this Blog, but Holly, isn't that normal for you? Well yes, but this was such a hard, dark painting, while, although I loved it, it seemed awfully hard and dark. And you must realize, as someone who has made lots and lots of paintings that haven't sold, that I had no desire to make another painting that probably wouldn't sell because of it's darkness. But, as usual, my rational voice didn't have a chance, and my creative voice took over, turning what was hard and dark into an projection of the way I currently see so much of the world. The piece was purchased from a recent exhibition and by, I can only guess, someone who chooses to see a reflection of our complicated world with all of it's various shades of gray.
